At least it seems to be over.

Yeah, I am. The school's really coming along, actually. There's been a lot more people wanting to help than I anticipated. I really wasn't expecting so many volunteers.

That probably says a lot more about me than the people who are helping.

Not no one, I'm not quite that jaded. Just not as many.

I guess good people are just in shorter supply where I come from.

You said your world was pretty fucked, yeah? Times like that, the good people tend to die out first.

Yeah. A plague wiped out most of humanity. Things got pretty bad in the initial aftermath.

[The words hit home. She thinks of all the dead in her town. She thinks of Boulder, and the night she'd left.]

You're right about that. Being a good person and surviving don't go hand in hand very often.

How long were you living like that? The world wiped out.

I'm honestly not entirely sure. A year, maybe. It got sort of hard to keep track of days or weeks or anything like that.

I know I was on the road for months, and that seasons kept changing.

[ He's pretty sure his version of Earth was nearly destroyed before he ended up here, so — not sure what'll be left of it, either. Totally different reason, though. ]

That's sure true. It's not a bad life. Even with all the weirdness.
